Evolution A seven part PBS mini-series
Using a novel approach that combines drama and documentary, this seven-part PBS series from Paul Allen's Vulcan Productions is groundbreaking in both scope and style. The series begins with a dramatization of the struggles of Charles Darwin in a two-hour film ("Darwin's Dangerous Idea"), and the six following programs explore various topics related to evolution and its ramifications. Narrated by Liam Neeson. The series has nearly five hours of score, covering a wide range of styles, from full orchestral treatments to ethnically influenced pieces to jazz and more. Non-traditional instruments figure prominently, including the Indian bansuri, the Chinese erhu and (most notably) a 30,000 year old fossilized deer-bone flute. Orchestra recorded in NYC, everything else recorded in Boston. Record available at www.intrada.com |
