Legacy An HBO Film
Legacy is the powerful portrait of an African-American family and its struggle to break free from poverty, welfare, drug addiction and the violence in their community. Told from the point-of-view of 15-year-old Nikki Collins, the film presents the story of her family as it is shaken, splintered and ultimately transformed by the murder of her teen-age brother in a gang-related incident near their home in the projects of Chicago. The music for the film is against type: rather than using rap or hip-hop to focus on the story's urban setting, the music paints the film's inner human story, which is one of loss, despair, and ultimately of hope. Scored for 21 strings, oboe, bassoon, piano and voice, the music is stately, somber and occasionally elegiatic. Recorded in Seattle, engineered by Armin Steiner. |
